Christmas TV Classics (some more famous than others)

It’s Christmas time folks, and if you are anything like me, this time of year makes for Christmas viewings of our favorite holiday movies and specials.

Besides the usual favs like Rudolph, Grinch and Scrooged, there are some lesser known classics that not everyone might be aware of or may have forgotten about. For me, many of these stem from old TV shows I used to watch which had a special Christmas episode during a season. Some have multiple episodes, so I picked 1 for you.

Today I will give you 5 I think you should check out. I won’t spoil them or give too much on the plots, but do yourself a favor and peek at them, then tell me what you think. Also, send me some of your own favs I may have missed.

5. ANY Dr. Who special, but “A Christmas Carol” is the best one of the lot. Though “Last Christmas” fought bravely for the top Dr. Who choice, I think Carol tops it.

4. Warehouse 13’s “The Greatest Gift”. A take on another Christmas classic, this along with “Secret Santa” are two very good specials for this now retired great SyFy show, Gift is just too good to pass up.

3. As a Syfy fan, yes Eureka has to be in here too. Though it is tough to pick between their two offerings, “O Little Town” & ‘Do you see what I See”, I will recommend Do you see as the one you should check out this season. It will tickle your animation feathers.

2. “A Garfield Christmas”. I think this one is one of the lesser known classics that many of today’s kids are missing out on. Garfield may not be as popular today as other cartoons, but this is a classic heart warming episode that kids and their parents who probably grew up with Garfield should see.

1. Space above And Beyond’s “A River of Stars”. Space Above and Beyond was probably the best sci-fi TV show ever. Its short run left us with many amazing episodes, but River is a a Christmas classic that should be required viewing by not only fans of the genre, but the whole family.

Well that is it for now. And these aren’t really in any particular order, they just happened to land in the order I remembered them. But if you can see some of them this Christmas season, I think you and your family will more than enjoy.

Merry Christmas!!! (and Festiivus…oh yeah, don’t forget Seinfeld’s “The Strike” for those looking for an alternative holiday!)

Remembering Tim Dubberly.

Last night I attended the funeral of Mr. Tim Dubberly.  A long time employee at Nassau Terminals in Fernandina Beach & Kinder Morgan who tragically died in a crane accident while performing routine repairs on said crane.

Tim had no LinkedIn account that I know of, and wore a really cool customized hard hat to work everyday.  Read no spreadsheets & did not work with email.  What he did do was keep cranes, top loaders, mules, forklifts, trucks and reefers working on a daily basis. Whether he knew how to or not, he made it happen. You'd be surprised how far general mechanic skills go.

What I remember most about Tim was how straight forward and no non-sense he was, all the while being kind and always very helpful.  He would always offer his services whenever possible.  Whether it was work related or in helping a friend tweak their Harleys, of which he owned 2 by the way.

Tim had many friends evident by the large showing at his funeral last night.  He will be missed by those who knew him, his family, but also by those companies and families he served daily by simply doing his job and doing it well.

Diesel drops, but what about your costs?

9/30/2014

Another slight drop for diesel prices this morning comes as welcomed news to the transportation industry.  But does it filter down to their customers?

On the whole, it does, or at least it should.  But many times, it does not.  Quite often these drops in fuel are not passed down to the customers as they should.  The reasons behind this could be many, but it is important for the logistics consumer to be vigilant and assure themselves they are paying market rates for fuel at all times.

Some tips to make sure you are maximizing your fuel dollar are:

1.  Request weekly fuel price updates from carrier
2.  Follow fuel trends to stay informed
3.  Call on other carriers or partners to review their fuel  rates

Some of this may seem basic but it is important to monitor your costs as a shipper to assure yourself the best deal in transportation and service.

At Atlas along with LDi, we are constantly monitoring fuel prices and adjusting rates accordingly.  If you are interested in learning more about our services, please feel free to reach out to me.

Happy Shipping!
